Once you have added a video to your Powtoon, you may find it necessary to make one or more of the following changes to the video:
- Trim a section from the beginning of the video (All video types)
- Trim a section from the end of the video (All video types)
- Continue the video to the next slide (Background video only)
- Loop a video (Background video only)
Video as an Object
Trimming a section from the beginning of a video
- Locate the video that you would like to trim.
- Drag the left edge of the object's duration to the desired beginning time.
In the example below:
The video will be edited to begin 4 seconds after the start of the video. All the frames before this point will be trimmed out.

Trimming a section from the end of a video
- Locate the video that you would like to trim.
- Drag the right edge of the object's duration to the desired end time.
In the example below:
The video will be edited to end 4 seconds before the end of the video. All the frames after this point will be trimmed out.

Background Video
Trimming a section from the beginning of a video
- Play the slide with the video section that you want to trim.
In the example below:
The video will be edited to begin 4 seconds after the start of the video. All the frames before this point need to be trimmed out.

- Locate the point in the video where you want the scene to begin.

- In the lower left corner of the slide, click the video indicator to display the video controls.
The video indicator displays the start and end times of the video on the current slide.

In the example below:
The video begins at 00:00 and ends at 00:10. The entire video length is 00:14.
Note that the length of the video on this slide matches the length of the slide.

4. In the video controls, change the start time so that the video begins after the section that you
want to trim.

The start time will be changed to 00:04 as the playhead is positioned at 4 and the video begins at 00:00. All the frames before 00:04 will be trimmed out.

Note that the length of the video on the slide remains 10 seconds. Only the start and end times have changed.
Trimming a section from the end of a video
- Play the slide with the video section that you want to trim.
2. To change the object's timing (duration):
- Drag the left edge of the object's duration to the desired beginning time.
- Drag the right edge of the object's duration to the desired end time.
In the example below, the character plays from 3 seconds until 7 seconds.

The video will be edited to end one second before the end of the slide. All the frames after this point need to be trimmed out.

- Pause the playhead at exactly where you want the scene to end.

- Use the slide duration controls to remove the required number of seconds so that the scene ends where the playhead is positioned.

The edited scene will appear as below:

Continuing a video to the next slide
Use this option when you want the last frames of a video to continue to the next slide in your Powtoon.
Tip!
This is useful when you have placed assets on a slide with video and would like them to also be displayed on the following slide.
- In the slide panel, click the slide thumbnail with the video that you want to continue.
In the example below:
The last frames of slide #1 will be continued to a new slide.

- Hover over the 3 dots in the slide thumbnail's bottom right corner and then click Clone objects to create a new slide that continues this scene.

A new slide, beginning with the last frames of the previous slide, will be created.
In the example below:
Slide #2, with the last frames and the asset displayed on slide #1, has been created.

Looping a video
- In the slide panel, click the slide thumbnail with the video that you want to loop (duplicate).
- Hover over the 3 dots in the slide thumbnail's bottom right corner and then click Duplicate slide.

A new slide, identical to the previous slide (same start and end times), will be created.
